lubuntu Lucid Beta 1 released

Julien Lavergne has released lubuntu Lucid Beta 1. Don't forget that it's build with Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) which is still in Beta state of development, so same warnings:

"Pre-releases of Lucid are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage.  They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs."

We passed Feature Freeze, that means most of the features should now be available. It's now time for testing and fixing bugs.

Lubuntu still contains modifications not available in the official repository, you can see them in the Lubuntu PPA [1] :

- lubuntu-artwork with new logo
- lubuntu-meta updated
- lxsession 0.4.3 (LP: #541559)
- lxterminal 0.1.7 (LP: #533466)
- Autostart gnome-authentification (for polkit support) (LP: #529492)
- Fix for blurry shutdown-icon from elementary-icons (LP: #527345)
- Don't autostart print applet (LP: #529472)

== Testing needed ==
I'll appreciate some feedbacks about the followings recent additions:
- pcmanfm2, the new filemanager, is still in beta state. Please report bugs on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/SubTeams/TestingSubTeam/pcmanfm2Testing
- lxterminal (new version available)
- Logout command (hibernate, suspend, logout etc ...)

I have downloaded the ISO file and put it on USB memory. I booted on it and the live system worked fine. The system is very responsive and I think that default applications are great.

All hardware on my min HP-110 was recognized. I use LXDE with my DEBIAN unstable and I think that is a great idea to put LXDE with Ubuntu to avoid long configuration like I did with DEBIAN.

Lubuntu is good alternative for limited PCs.

I'll install the 10.04 release.

Will be released a 64 bit version too? I know lubuntu runs good on older hardware, but doesn't it work even better on newer hardware?

I downloaded Lubuntu beta 1 twice. Burned the CD both times, but when I use de "check CD for defects" on boot, it teels me that 1 file is wrong.
What could be happening?

Yes, I got the same thing. Tried on several disks including CD and DVD, both reported the same. Then I used the MD5sum and it checked out fine. Not sure if the disk's MD5 is correct.You can see this by doing this at the command line:md5sum lubuntufile.iso > file.txtThis will create file.txt with the MD5sum number and you can compare to the MD5 file that is at the download site. Mine checked out th same.

Hi, I encountered the same thing: md5 is ok, but using "Check disc defects" reports errors. I started the iso directly via kvm and also qemu without kvm (-no-kvm). This not only happens for 10.04, but also for lubuntu-maverick-beta1.iso (several files). Has anyone an idea??

Hello all, have tested the Lubuntu beta 1 and looks good. Especially blue which is my favourite color. On the other hand I still no improvement on the autologin feature with LXDM so I will still need to install GDM instead. Hopefully there is a process for this in the next release. Any possibilities to ad more desktopflavours would also be a plus. Welldone with this Lubuntu and I will keep on using this.

As happy owner of an ASUS eeepc 900, I'm interested in a light-weight OS. Put lubuntu on a USB stick and took it for a spin. Overall experience very good. Just a few remarks/questions:
Although I'm happy with Abiword in itself, I need OpenOffice for its compatibility with Microsoft Office. No problem: installed OpenOffce through synaptic. Worked fine, except that buttons in the wordprocessor are downright ugly with rediculously large icons for bold/italic/underline for instance. They are much better in the OpenOffice supplied with Lucid. Can that be changed?
It is probably my lack of insight, but I could not find a setting allowing for two-finger touchpad scrolling. What did I miss?Keep up the good work and interested to see stable version in due course.

with all the repeats, different ubuntu Lubuntu is a much more practical with fewer errors, more intuitive, I use it on machines with few resources, but I certainly love to see their maximum splendor in 64 bit. would be nice to know if we can expect something. lxde in ubuntu every day is a more mature compared to other distros as we are beginning ... as elubuntu. perhaps the only problem I see with Lubuntu is with the recording of other CDs and DVDs is excellent.

Hi, This lubuntu system sounds very interesting. I have been reading the information here to see what it really is and what it can do...did not really glean much.
