Lubuntu 11.10 testing

New Build System: The transition from our internal lubuntu build to Canonical build has taken a little while. Whilst our Lubuntu head of dev (Julien) has managed to squeeze 26 hours into 24 hour days, also the people who look after the automated build system have been really ‘up for’ ensuring that they have lubuntu building automatically. We had a dip of 5 days, but are doing well. For them to be able to get not just a basic alternate install, but the full suite of all architectures is a testament to them. At present, we have daily LiveCD builds and alternate. There are still some things to iron out. Keep an eye onhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Testing as to where we are up to. Regards, Phill.

a lot better than ubuntu and kubuntu. less hassles. kubuntu causes as many headaches as windows. i had ubuntu installed for a day, and did like it, and then downloaded lubuntu 11.04 and other then, getting a pair of reading glasses on the some of the text, i would perfer a default font a little bigger. about the only request. thank you very much for coming out with it. my windows installation was no more.

For 11.04, there was an unofficial 64-bit build of Lubuntu.

Hopefully, we can get an official 64-bit build for 11.10?

It has been so cold with the freeze. Just the desktop comes up. Been running sudo apt-get autoremove, sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get upgrade and even sudo apt-get upgrade –fix-missing but still I miss the desktop working right. My last downloaded CD was the 9/29/11 one. Before with the kernel 3.0.0-10 one could use the kernel header recovery mode. At present there is 3.0.0-12.19 but I still just got the 3.0.0-12 without the point 19. I will sure be glad when it is done. I am glad that I kept Zorin OS Lite 5 on the IDE hard drive while experimenting with the SATA drive with Alpha, Beta 1 and now Beta 2.

When I upgraded from 11.04 Lubuntu to the beta 11.10 I noticed that the GDM has been replaced by LightDM. I have replaced the LXDM with GDM because I could not found any alternative to have the autologin enabled. Since the LightDM came across there was no way for me to have the autologin enabled so I needed to reinstall the 11.04 with the GDM back on my pc. I hope that the autologin enabling works well now with LightDM and that the final version will not consume lots of memory as what I have read through the testings stories so far.

When I did a clean wipe of 9/29/11 and downloaded 10/5/11 there was a noticeable difference. Today is 10/12/11 and the only thing I encountered not working is the extra kernel recovery menu working right. It is still at read-only. Nvidia 280.13 drivers are working great and I like the PPA Lubuntu software center. The LXpanel allows one to run the panel on top now. Pulse audio is working great. 🙂
