Lubuntu Lucid Alpha 2 "Preview 2"

Hi, the second Alpha of Lubuntu is now available for testing. Don't forget that it's build with Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) which is still in Alpha state of development, so same warnings : "Pre-releases of Lucid are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs."

There is not so much changes between Alpha 1 and Alpha 2, don't expect big surprises. The next release (Alpha 3), which will be released after the Feature Freeze, will be more interesting :)

Features :
- LXDE packages up-to-date
- LXDM - The new pcmanfm for testing (type "pcmanfm2" in a terminal)
- Many wallpapers and start icons from lxde forum, gnome-look or Leszek Lesner, to be able to switch easily and to test the result
- First customization with a splash screen from Leszek Lesner
- Installable with ubiquity (but upgrade from this Alpha 2 to next release is not guaranteed). Known bugs:
- Alpha 2 may not boot on karmic Virtualbox, you should upgrade virtualbox to avoid this problem.

If you want to create a bootable usb system, please use the usb creator directly on Ubuntu. Please follow the testing process described on this page : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/SubTeams/TestingSubTeam . You can also report problems and bugs relative to the tests on this page. alpha 2.iso works perfect

Hello Julien, testing currently the alpha2 and it works perfect. Only after having some upgrades afterwards the shutdown icon suddenly disappeared and shows now a grey wheel :-) Thought that after couple of upgrades this should have gone now but still there. If there is any info how this can be corrected, pls. Great job with this Lubuntu. Regards, hosoka

Windows style taskbar and Qt?

As crunchbang seems dead, I was eager to try this alpha as Lubuntu seems the best alternative. However I don't think an operating system can be taken seriously when it thinks it has to try to look like another one. Do you really need to make the panel look like Windows? Why? Why not make Lubuntu stand on its own 2 feet? Second, I understand SMplayer is Qt. Don't you think that the people attracted to LXDE would prefer a more streamilined, more GTK system? Do we really need Qt for a comparable experience? I hawe been waiting eagerly for Lubuntu for a long time, but I am very disappointed with the direction it has taken.

why does the taskbar look like it's from windows?

Isn't it a shame to make your thing look like windows, as the taskbar does? You're building a variation of a system better than windows. No one will ever take it seriously if It looks like has to copy windows. It looks cheap.

can't boot in vbox

Installed lubuntu alpha2 can't boot in virtualbox, even with the latest virtualbox 3.1.2 r56127.Live cd worked fine, installation process was succesful.
